Hollywood’s New Movie Ramp Up Leads to Rise in Cosplay Opportunities

Millions of cosplayers around the world are suiting up in some of the hottest costumes in preparation for Hollywood’s upcoming releases that have sparked more interest than ever before. In 2022 alone, numerous movies are being released that provide hype and opportunity for costume enthusiasts to broaden their adventurous side and mimic some of the coolest, sometimes scary, and often desirable characters.

Scream

The sarcastically scary and easy-to-replicate Halloween favorite, Scream (2022), was released on January 14th. It includes some of the original cast, such as Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, which could make this an excellent time for a Deputy Dewey costume. But for cosplay, it’s Ghostface that steals the stage.

The Batman

Opening on March 4th, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. This movie presents an even darker side than before and includes DC characters The Penguin, played by the sexy Colin Farrell, and Paul Dano as the Riddler.

Morbius

This new Sony release is about a scientist who unintentionally turns himself into a vampire while searching for a cure for his rare blood disease. This flick, starring Jared Leto, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated for those heavily into vampire cosplay. The general theme offers a mysterious costume opportunity that adds a lot of thrill to the fun.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

An excellent choice for those with fursona (wanting to emulate a furry character or avatar), Sonic the Hedgehog is the ultimate cosplay character who first conquered the world through the video game console released by Sega in June 1991.   

Since then, Hollywood brought this adorable, high-octane character to life through motion pictures in 2020. Sadly, Sonic did not get the chance to be seen in cosplay due to the pandemic, so he will likely be a popular cosplay character this year, with his second movie coming in April.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

This highly anticipated film has astonishing graphics and is one of the first Marvel Universe entries for 2022. Not only does Doctor Strange provide a magical spin on cosplay, but the character is easier than most to replicate. In addition, the film will undoubtedly tie in to and highlight other Marvel characters, giving fans the chance to bring out their costumes from earlier Marvel films. 

Furthermore, this film includes the sexy Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen), who can break the laws of physics while dressed in deep red hues that hug every curve of her gorgeous physique. 

Jurassic World Dominion 

The last Jurassic movie ended with the declaration that humans would have to co-exist with dinosaurs, thus making this film even more thrilling for cosplayers who desire an intriguing adventure, especially if they wish to relish in the behavior that a dinosaur portrays. While such a character role requires an extensive amount of effort, we’re confident that many will be lured and fascinated by those willing to go that extra mile to achieve the wow factor in the world of cosplay.  

Thor: Love and Thunder

With the return of a star-studded cast, Thor: Love and Thunder features costumes that attract attention with armor attire that showcases the character’s sexy physiques. While difficult to pull off without broad shoulders and a strong statue, you will undoubtedly take center stage if you can replicate Thor and his mannerisms.

Additionally, there is an abundance of cosplay opportunities to mimic from this feature film, including Drax the Destroyer, Mantis, Star-Lord, Grandmaster, Valkyrie, and Groot, all providing a unique charisma. However, Thor is arguably the sexiest of the bunch to portray.

While the plot in this flick is unknown, The Flash’s costume is yet another Lycra clenching outfit that oozes sexy in the cosplay community, because who doesn’t love a superhero in tights, right?

Did Betamax Die Because of Porn?

For years, there has been talk that Betamax, by Sony, ended up losing the videotape format wars to VHS due to pornography. Sony refused to mass-produce pornographic films, while VHS chose the opposite route. While there’s no definitive proof that pornography was the one thing that led to the downfall of Betamax, there’s some evidence that it played a large role. This article explores the competition between the formats, which started in the late 70s and continued through the early 80s. There were two main players in the battle: the video home system, VHS, and Betamax.

Early Video Tech History

The first VCRs on the consumer level included the Phillips N1500, released in 1972. These used large square videocassettes that were generally considered unreliable. This was particularly true with the longer videocassettes, which were up to 60 minutes or more in length. 

After the release of the N1500, Sony released Betamax. It was showcased in 1974 and officially released in 1975. Sony felt that the industry would gravitate towards one type of videotape format using much more reliable media. Due to the reliability of Betamax, they assumed they would be the clear winners.

Then, JVC released another system with a new form of videocassette. After the introduction of VHS, Phillips adopted the system for their VCRs. There were other competing formats in the home video market, but these ultimately fell away quickly. The competition for dominance in the market was down to VHS versus Betamax.

With VCRs, Sony and JVC were pitching two different things to the world. Betamax offered quality, with the ability to record shows with a sharper image and superior sound. Unfortunately, Betamax could only record for up to two hours. While physically, the tapes were capable of recording for longer periods, the quality was poor. Sony decided against allowing that, hoping that the superiority of their product would win out. VHS could record for four hours and was less expensive than Betamax; two benefits VHS had even though the quality of the recordings was lower.

Ultimately many people believe that the downfall of Betamax was the price difference. Betamax players were about $1,000, while the VHS tape player was around $300. Consumers didn’t have the disposable income, nor were they willing to pay that much more for the amount of increased picture quality and better sound they were getting. VHS was still a good product, even if it wasn’t as good as Betamax. VHS was ultimately the better deal, though other comparisons can be made and brought into the discussion of why VHS won out.

The Porn Commitment In Tech

Some have suggested that Sony’s Betamax failed because they didn’t agree to license to pornography companies or allow them to use their technology for mass production. Keep in mind, when home videos were first released, the Internet didn’t exist. Without the access to pornography that the Internet brings, home video was the premier way people would purchase porn. Before the VCR came into existence, people went to special cinemas to see adult films. Seeing pornography in a theater was awkward to some, which quickly catapulted home videos to prominence in the industry.

In the 1970s, porn was quite popular and more socially acceptable than ever. It was fairly acceptable to go to the theater to see stag films, though they didn’t grant the same freedom and privacy that home video porn did. Due to this, many people purchased porn VHS cassettes, and all of the pornography companies started putting their products on video.

Ultimately there are many benefits that historians point to in terms of why people chose VHS over Betamax. Saving $700 on the video player played a large role, and those who bought a VCR that played VHS also got the added benefit of being able to play pornography from the comfort of home. With the ability to get completely naked, masturbate, and enjoy whatever type of porn they wanted in their own home, XXX fans were sold.

Long before the battle between Blu-ray and DVD, there was the battle between VHS and Betamax. While the tech world has often said that the porn industry played a significant role in that victory, some people believe its part was much smaller. In addition, VHS gave the added benefits of longer recording times, less expensive video players, and more.

People could watch X-rated movies in privacy, seeing what they wanted to watch when they wanted to watch it.

Betamax stuck around for a while even after VHS won out, mainly because the higher quality was used in some television and news situations. Ultimately, however, Betamax faded into the ether. Amar

Amar is a Spanish, subtitled film from 2017 – but, let’s be serious, if you want a movie you can both get turned on by, does it matter what language it’s in? The story follows a young couple and their sexual relationship during those frantic early days of passion and lust.

She meets Carlos, and they hook up, as the movie traces the ups and downs of their relationship. Throughout the honeymoon, the sisters sleep with each other’s husbands. While the film is primarily about the relationship between the sisters, there are plenty of steamy love scenes. The sisters have wildly different personalities that translate into the sex scenes, which creates a beautiful contrast in the love scenes.

Overall, this is a hot and sexy movie for an evening in with a bottle of wine. However, you might want to give it a skip if your partner has sibling issues, and you want to avoid the potential for sexy times to become a therapy session.

Berlin Syndrome

Hailing from Australia, this movie is a compelling thriller with enough sexy content that you can stealth your way into the Chill part of the evening.

Smoking hot ex-model and actress Teresa Palmer plays the role of Claire, an Australian photographer who meets a local Andi, when she is on vacation in Berlin, Germany. There’s chemistry between them, and they quickly start a love affair that leads to spending a weekend at his apartment. Come Monday morning, Claire finds that Andi has left for work, and she is unable to leave his place. What follows is a great thriller. With plenty of sex throughout the movie and a tight plot, there’s enough here to get a little hot and bothered and still claim you chose the film because of its interesting story.
