Summer reading season is here, and if you’re looking for some new reading material to dive into as you lounge by the pool, we’ve got you covered.
Any list of fantasy novels must first pay homage to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” series. While the books remain divisive among erotic literature fans, they were responsible for moving erotic stories from the Romantic Fiction isle to the forefront of mainstream retailers. The sudden mainstream interest in erotic novels made literary agents worldwide go out hunting for well-crafted stories that had lashings of sex and sensuality without having to wrap it all up in a Harlequin-style romance.
“The Viscount Who Loved Me” by Julia Quinn
Hugely popular and one of the bestselling books of the year in the erotic fantasy world, Quinn is also responsible for the source material on the Netflix show Bridgerton. “The Viscount Who Loved Me” is the second book featuring Anthony Bridgerton and the world he inhabits.
This sequel takes the already established character, charmer and reformed rake Anthony, and follows his romantic exploits. In this story, he has to deal with an overprotective sister while pursuing his love interest. Much pillow talk and flirting ensues.
“The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy” by A N Roquelaure
Post “Interview With A Vampire,” but a few years before “The Vampire Lestat,” Anne Rice took her sensual view of the world, created a fake name, and retells the story of Sleeping Beauty as a sexual fantasy that involves domination, submission and an overabundance of sex.
In the first book, “The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty,” the Prince wakes Beauty up not with a kiss but by banging her silly. From there, he strips her naked and takes her home. On the Queen’s orders, Beauty is trained to be a sexual plaything and slave. The books tell the erotic story of submission, slavery, and sexual freedom.
The books have been banned in several libraries and labeled hardcore porn, which should give you an idea of just how raunchy the text is. If you like your porn with a side of kink, then the Beauty Series might be an excellent investment for you.
“The Kiss Quotient” by Helen Hoang
“The Kiss Quotient” is a fascinating tale of a woman discovering her sexuality and pushing her boundaries in revealing ways. The main character, Stella Lane, has autism and recognizes that she has major problems with intimacy. Since she wants to get married to have a “normal life,” she concocts a plan to solve her issues, get experienced, and find herself a partner.
Being a newbie and not knowing how to proceed, she finds an escort and sex guru named Michael, who agrees to coach her and teach her every trick he knows about sex and pleasure.
Hoang does a beautiful job writing with a lyricism that brings you inside the text and will give you a warm glow in your nether regions.
“Thrones of Desire: Erotic Tales of Swords, Mist and Fire” by Mitzi Szereto
Deftly dodging any potential copyright issues of a Mr. Martin, Ms. Szereto creates a fantasy world that looks and feels very similar to the “Game of Thrones” universe and adds a lot more sex.
A lot more sex. From seductions for passion, lust, and political gain, the inhabitants of this familiar world are all constantly horny and spend more time having sex than hatching devious plans to take the throne.
This book is a fun read with some swords, sorcery, and lots of steamy scenes.
“The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger
You may have already seen the movie based on the book, but if not, the descriptive title lays out what to expect.
Claire, an artist, and DeTable, a librarian, have a steamy love affair that’s complicated by the fact that DeTable is traveling through time. While faced with these temporal complications, the couple has a relationship that carries through time. Since they’re constantly meeting up after missing each other, the sex is always hot and passionate due to the time-traveling.
Consider this one if you liked the idea of “Outlander.”
“Next In Line For Love” by Harper Bliss
Can a book about business rivals fighting over control of companies and fortunes provide a decent backdrop for an erotic novel? After reading Harper Bliss’s “Next In Line For Love,” the answer is a resounding yes.
Corporate rivals Ali and Jill are vying for control of Ali’s family business. Jill has been busting her butt for twenty years to become CEO, but Ali is the owners’ daughter and a shoo-in for the job.

“The Black Dagger Brotherhood” by JR Ward
